Customising medication can take place in many different dosage forms, many of which we wall know, such as capsules, suspensions, creams and ointments. Compounding pharmacists can also make more unusual types of dosage forms such as lozenges, pessaries, lollipops, mouthwashes and effervescent tablets.  Compounding increases access to medicines for prescribers by allowing specific doses of medicines that are not readily available from your local pharmacy. It also improves compliance to medicines, by providing a dosage form such as an oral liquid that may be more easily swallowed by patients.

Compounding pharmacists have undergone extra training to become well-equipped to prepare customised medicines. While traditional techniques such as the use of a mortar and pestle are still used commonly, we combine these with modern compounding equipment such as mixers and capsule machines. Extensive standard operating procedures are mandatory and are put in place to ensure effective and safe medicines are delivered to each and every patient.  Ingredients are only ever sourced from reputable suppliers, to ensure a quality compounded medicine is supplied to the patient.
